Winners for the 94th Academy Awards announced March 27, 2022, from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California.
“CODA” was the big winner of the night, taking home the prize for Best Picture, along with the two other categories for which it was nominated. Troy Kotsur won for his supporting role in the heartwarming film and Siân Heder won for adapting the screenplay.
"CODA" is the first movie to win Best Picture with fewer than four total nominations since "Grand Hotel" in 1932, which won with only a single nomination.
And the Oscar goes to…
The 94th Academy Awards, for outstanding film achievements of 2021, will be presented on Sunday, March 27, 2022, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center, and will be televised live on ABC and in more than 225 countries worldwide.
Kotsur is the second deaf actor to be nominated for playing a deaf character and is the second deaf actor to win. Previously, Marlee Matlin won an Oscar for her leading role in "Children of a Lesser God" (1986).
A touching moment happened right before the final category of the night was announced. Lady Gaga whispered "I gotcha" to Best Picture co-presenter Liza Minnelli, who said back, "I know." It was a great way to end the tumultuous evening after nominee-later-winner Will Smith infamously slapped presenter Chris Rock.
"Dune" was the most decorated film of the evening, winning six of the 10 Oscars for which it was nominated.
Billie Eilish became the first person born in the 21st century to win an Oscar, and the second youngest winner in the category's history, at 20. She won with her brother Finneas O'Connell for the title song from "No Time To Die."
"The Power of the Dog" left the big night with only one Oscar, for Best Director. Jane Campion, who helmed the Western psychological drama, became the first woman to have more than one nomination in the Directing category, also nominated for 1993's "The Piano." She is the fourth woman to be nominated for Directing, Writing and Best Picture for the same film. She is the third woman to accept Best Director.
